Today,
I woke up to my phone unplugged from the charger, and not charged.
I was fifty feet from my work's entrance and had to go all the way back home to check if I turned the stove off.
I saw my first blog post for work go live on LIFT's website.
I was awed by the talent of Teen Empowerment's Open Mic Night at the Somerville Community Growing Center.
I was mistaken for an employee at Star Market, perhaps due to the blue LIFT T-shirt I was wearing.
I had Red Baron pepperoni pizza for dinner.
I walked to Harvard Square to pick up a package at Fed Ex, which is open 24 hours so that I can go after 9 o'clock at night.
I pre-made pancakes for tomorrow's breakfast.
Think you have a routine down? Think again.
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
And besides, as one of the performers at Open Mic Night reminded me during a song, we all need change.
Although he probably wasn't talking about my phone not charging overnight, or not remembering if I remembered to turn off the stove (which I did, rest assured). Good or bad, changes in your day force you to be flexible and a quick problem solver, to learn from your mistakes, and to value new opportunities. Something as small as being able to handle what gets thrown at you during your day can translate into handling much larger projects and challenges.
Also, next time someone asks you how your day was, don't say good. I came up with a list of 8 occurrences in my day that could all make for separate funny stories. As long as you know the person really cares how your day was, tell them! Make it interesting. It's your story, how will you tell it?
